Eastern Kentucky. Lexington’s first hospital, St. Joseph’s, is known as the city’s “heart hospital,”
being a pioneer in the health care community. The hospital is very active in the community,
prioritizing education, senior citizen programs, and regular health screening events throughout
the year. St. Joseph’s has received multiple recognitions and awards, being named among the
top 100 hospitals for Stroke Care, Critical Care, and Pulmonary Care in 2019. As part of the CHI
Saint Joseph Health system, one of the largest health systems in Kentucky, St. Joseph Hospital
is one of 135 facilities in over 20 counties.
Known as the “Horse Capital of the World,” Lexington, Kentucky lives up to its name with its two
horse-racing tracks, Keeneland and The Red Mile. Hosting numerous horse-racing events April
through October, Lexington is also known for two other festivals, The Festival of the Bluegrass
and “It’s A Grand Night for Singing!,” an annual tribute performance to Broadway. Other
offerings include sporting events, city parks, and three large natural areas, providing ample
hiking and outdoor exploration. Lexington ranks 10th in college education rate in the US, with
around 40% of its residents having at least one bachelor degree. As one of the highest
concentrations of gay and lesbian couples in the US, the city officially recognizes June 29 as
Pride Day. Lexington has one of the nation’s most stable economies, with a low unemployment
rate, and a diverse mix of large corporations. The city experiences four distinct seasons with no
prolonged periods of heat, cold, rain, wind, or snow. Summers are hot and humid, while cold
winters are typically moderate. Lexington is considered a high allergy area by the Asthma and
Allergy Foundation of America. If you’re looking for an urban location with changing seasons
