Hospital Description
Medical Center Hospital is located in Odessa, Texas. Serving over 100,000 patients annually, this 402-bed medical center is the only full-service hospital in the Permian Basin area. With over 70 years of history, Medical Center Hospital provides a number of standard healthcare services.
Odessa is a mid-sized city located in west Texas. In 2014, Forbes magazine ranked Odessa as the third-fastest growing small city in the U.S. Home to First Lady Barbara Bush, Odessa is said to have been named after Odessa, Ukraine, because of the resemblance to the shortgrass prairie in both locales. The Permian Basin, on which Odessa is situated above, is a large sedimentary deposit that contains oil and natural gas. The oil industry historically drives the town, but in recent years, Odessa has made efforts to diversify the energy it produces with a wind farm, since the area is prone to high winds. Odessa is a semiarid climate, as is most of West Texas, allowing for hot summers and mild winters. The Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, Globe of the Great Southwest, and the Odessa Jackalopes junior A ice hockey team are just a few of the entertainment offerings in the area. Steeped in both research, history, and geology, the area calls for new adventurers.
