Shannon Medical Center has provided the San Angelo area with more than 85 years of healthcare. The main facility includes a designated Level III Trauma Facility, named the top Trauma Facility in Texas, a Women’s & Children’s Hospital with a Level II NICU facility, and nationally-recognized cardiac and stroke programs. The hospital serves under the Shannon healthcare system which provides access to 25 facilities employing more than 350 providers in 40 medical specialities.

Located in central west Texas, San Angelo lies within the Concho Valley, between the Permian Basin to the northwest and the Chihauhaun Desert to the southwest. As a mid-sized city, San Angelo is home to Angelo State University, Fort Concho, and Goodfellow Air Force Base. The city has three lakes, is plentiful green spaces, and includes San Angelo State Park, a 7,677-acre home to the State of Texas Longhorn herd. There is an abundance of camping, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding within the park. San Angelo also has a sprawling Nature Center with over 85 species of reptiles. The annual San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo has drawn visitors to the area since 1932. Temperatures typically reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit about 18 times in a year, and winters usually include about 50 days of lows below freezing. Within its diverse economy, San Angelo has consistently been ranked as one of the best small cities for business and employment.
