Hospital Description

Saint Joseph Medical Center is located in Tacoma, Washington. The flagship hospital of the Franciscan Health System, the facility boasts a Level II trauma center, a Level III NICU, and a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services. The Family Birth Center includes a new Midwifery Center. The facility includes 374 beds and is designated as a short term acute care facility, providing care to the residents of Tacoma and the surrounding communities.

A port city along Washington’s Puget Sound, Tacoma is the third-largest city in Washington. Known as the “City of Destiny,” the area was chosen to be the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad back in the late 19th century. The port is a center of international trade which helps drive the economy. Since the 1990s, the downtown area has experienced a period of revitalization and is now Washington’s highest density of art and history museums. The restored urban waterfront provides visitors and residents a number of parks, residential areas, office spaces, and a public esplanade. Mount Rainier, Seattle, and the state’s capital, Olympia, are all within convenient driving distance. The median income for a household in the city is much lower than that of neighboring Seattle, making Tacoma a more convenient and affordable option for residents and commuters. Tacoma has warm summers and relatively mild winters.
